Managing Violence Podcast with Joe Saunders

S6. Ep. 4: “The Pitmaster” John Hackleman

August 10, 2020

John Hackleman is the legendary trainer of fighters such as Chuck Liddell, Glover Texeira and Court McGee along with a host of others. But he's also a lifelong martial artist, growing up tough in Hawaii where he was exposed to Kajukenbo - an art adapted to the realities of street violence and honour fighting on the islands. John would go on to become a champion boxer and kickboxer before switching focus to running his school and training fighters. In this episode, John shares some great insight into the differences and similarities in training people for the ring vs the street, and shares his thoughts on toughness as a virtue.
